The truth about "Criminal Checks" online...
In a few words, do not waste your money on sites that claim to scour public records for criminal background checks, especially those claiming to be "Free." Many will offer you free searches, but the catch is that if you want the info, you pay.
There is one and only one national database (NCIC) and it is only available to law enforcement members or criminal justice agencies. Employers need to search on a county level, and as you might guess, searching many counties becomes costly.
Another way is to hire an FCRA approved vendor, this requires written permission from the subject. Businesses and companies usually employ this type of background check on employees. Depending upon the info needed, this could be costly, but there may be times when this search is needed.
What searchable information is out there?
Every customer has different needs. I don't have a standard search, I hunt info based upon the info I'm given.
I invite you to check out the online background search sites available. You will see that not only do they charge a lot more, you only get one bite of the apple. It's a simple name search and if you receive a ton of results and want to narrow them down, (for example by adding a middle initial) they'll charge you again. What I do is get some simple info from you, maybe a location or school and search from there. I am not a programmed search engine, I am a human that can follow leads where they take me. You just can't get this service anywhere else.
